The Sonic Runway is an audio-reactive light-art installation that converts audio signals into patterns of lights that shoot down a corridor of arches at the speed of sound.
This Disco Shuttle pulled up to launch the Sonic Runway this evening and happened to play one of our favorite tracks -- in fact it was one that I had tested the software on before we ever deployed it. It was amazing to see the real thing come to life!
About
The Sonic Runway is a corridor of concentric arches, each with 554 addressable LEDs, that visualizes the speed of sound.
Live audio input is analyzed and converted into a variety of intricate patterns that race down the corridor at the speed of sound (about 343 m/sec).
Standing at the front of the Runway, you can see the beats of the music rippling away from you. As you walk down the length, no matter where you are, the sound and the light are in sync. Looking back from the far end, you can see the sound coming at you, hearing the beat just as the pattern reaches you.
